F1 boss predicts ‘legend’ Verstappen will be replaced

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has suggested that Max Verstappen will soon be replaced at the top of the pecking order.

With his first title in 2021 amid an intense battle with Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen dominated the next two seasons on his way to championship success.

The Dutchman is once again the favorite for the 2024 title after winning four out of six races.

However, Domenicali highlighted that Verstappen's position at the front of the grid is likely to be eclipsed soon as teams competing with Red Bull catch up.

“I think it's right to say that we're not creating a false result because someone performed better than others,” Domenicali said. espn. “That's not the goal of sport.

“And by the way, throughout this sport, Formula 1 has had cycles where we have had great racers who have won for many years, one after another, and that is not a factor that does not attract people.

“There's also the fact that if there are too many races [being won]you are unable to overcome the myth.

He continued: “So we need to respect the fact that Max is the best driver so far, and soon there may be someone who will take this place.”

Domenicali in an appeal to the fans

With Verstappen winning 76 percent of races held since 2022, fans have noticed the lack of competition and increased predictability.

However, Domenicali urged fans to maintain interest as he denied that the sports product is currently boring.

“Those fans are very few, I think,” he said. “We've sold out everywhere around the world, and the numbers are just growing.

“So I think they are a very limited number, but they have to stay focused on our sport, because they have big, big things going on.

“All the cars are very close. Things can always happen at every moment. So I advise them to stay with us.”
