Seven-time WSL winner Emma Hayes has explained why she left Chelsea Women to join the USWNT.

Recently exited Chelsea Women's manager Emma Hayes has explained her reasons for leaving the Blues for the USWNT in an emotional video.

Hayes is synonymous with Chelsea Women, having made the London-based club the most dominant team in the Women's Super League and one of the best in the world.

Chelsea Women's coach Emma Hayes had strong words in her post-match press conference following UWCL's exit from Barcelona, blaming the “worst decision in the history of the Women's Champions League” for her team's woes.

She won seven Premier League titles with Chelsea, five FA Cups, two League Cups and one Community Shield. She also became the first female manager to reach a Champions League final in 12 years when she led Chelsea to the 2020/21 Champions League final.

She has now officially taken on the role of USWNT coach, speaking on their official channels, speaking glowingly about her time at Chelsea and giving the reason for her exit.

“I'm sure everyone can understand when you are associated with a club for almost 12 years. A club that is built from the bottom up, becomes a family, and becomes a big part of my own identity.”

“Without a doubt, it broke my heart because I care so much about the players and everyone I've built a relationship with. But I love a challenge and we won a lot at Chelsea, and I'm very proud of that.
