34-year-old facing significant obstacle in bid to leave Real Madrid this summer

It has already been decided that Nacho Fernandez will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, bringing his 23-year stay to an end. The veteran defender aims to end the season on a high, when Los Blancos face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, with the goal of winning his fifteenth title.

Nacho has already made up his mind, and he will not be convinced to leave. He already has his next step in mind, which is a move to the MLS. However, he faced a setback midway through his career to play in the United States.

As reported by Relevo, Nacho wants to earn a salary similar to what he currently earns at Real Madrid, but in order to do so, he must be registered as a Designated Player (DP). Currently, only two MLS teams have DP spots available, CF Montreal and the New York Red Bulls. Furthermore, only five MLB quarterbacks are on these contracts, which have no salary cap.

Nacho may find it difficult to get the contract he wants, although MLS clubs may be convinced to break the bank if he leads Real Madrid to Champions League glory next month. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
