Atletico Madrid are set to lose several defenders in the summer. Mario Hermoso and Stefan Savic are certain to leave the team, while there are also doubts over the futures of Caglar Soyuncu and Reinildo Mandava. Despite this, signings are being planned, and one of them is very close to arriving, namely Marcos Alonso.
Alonso will leave Barcelona at the end of the season as a free agent, with the decision not to actually offer him a new contract. Atletico moved quickly to land him and, barring any last-minute snags, he will be Diego Simeone's first signing of the transfer window, reports Ruben Urrea.

Alonso is likely to arrive as an option at left centre-back in Simeone's 5-3-2, although he is unlikely to be a replacement for Mario Hermoso, given that Atletico Madrid will certainly look to add a better player. Signing – The likes of Robin Le Normand and Christian Mosquera have been linked.
