Video: Ivory Coast star controversially save goal in Championship, replicates Diego Maradona’s “hand of god”

West Brom defender Cedric Kipre found himself at the centre of a heated controversy during a crucial Championship clash against QPR, as he seemingly got away with a blatant handball on the goal line.

The incident occurred in the 52nd minute at Loftus Road, with the Baggies leading 2-1 in a match with significant implications for both ends of the table.

QPR had been applying relentless pressure in their quest to level the score, even missing a penalty just minutes before the contentious moment unfolded.

Rising Ivorian star Defrignan Mondouo found dead in apartment

A 19-year-old Ivorian footballer from the Norwegian club HamKam was found dead in his apartment on Wednesday morning.

As they continued to press forward, a well-placed cross found the onrushing Sam Field, whose header appeared destined to find the back of the net, only to be denied by Kipre’s intervention.

Referee’s Missed Call Sparks Debate

Despite initial appearances suggesting a headed clearance by Kipre, replays revealed that he had used his left hand to tip the ball over the bar, a move typically deserving of a red card and penalty.

However, referee Geoff Altringham failed to spot the infringement, and no appeals were made by the QPR players.

Following the match, QPR centre-back Steve Cook expressed his frustration with the referee’s oversight, stating, as reported by Talk Sports, “He [Field] should have had a hat-trick, a blatant handball from Kipre. It can’t be missed! It’s a terrible decision by the referee but we tried to give everything tonight.”

Managers React to Controversial Call

QPR manager Marti Cifuentes also weighed in on the incident, acknowledging the missed call but refraining from making excuses.

“I saw that they were playing with two keepers for a second, yeah! I think we had enough chances to win the game but we’ve had decisions not on our side,” Cifuentes remarked.

“If today we have to play against two keepers, we have to make sure we are better so I will not complain today about reffing as it is a very difficult job.”
