A great first season for Victor Boniface

The Nigerian had a strong attacking first half of the season, finding the back of the net 10 times in his first 16 Bundesliga matches before an injury ruled him out in the new year.

That saw the 23-year-old miss Nigeria's run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, but the striker has since returned for Xabi Alonso's men, even if his place in the team is no longer as assured as it was months ago.

Boniface added four goals to the 10 goals scored in the first half of the season, reaching 14 Bundesliga goals in 23 matches (18 starts).

Victor Boniface statistics

The striker's 14 league goals meant he finished the season as Leverkusen's top scorer, with his return coming within 12 goals of Bayern Munich's Harry Kane.

This confirms the healthy distribution of goals for the Bundesliga champions, with Boniface scoring 15.7% of De Verkselve's 89 goals. Kane, on the other hand, scored 38.3% of Bayern's 94 goals.

In the Europa League, Boniface scored five of Leverkusen's 31 goals on the continent, netting four goals in five group stage matches – 31% of the team's goals in Europe.

What comes next for Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen?

Victory over Atalanta on Wednesday moves Leverkusen closer to unprecedented immortality under Alonso, with La Dea expected to pose a stern test in the continental play-off.
