Sevilla tie down cornerstone for new project on four-year deal with €40m release clause

Sevilla have struck a deal to keep one of the key elements of the club's summer rebuilding, following a breakout season for Isaac Romero. The 24-year-old will sign a new contract for the next four years.

According to Relevo, Sevilla have concluded a deal and even conducted a photo shoot for Romero's renewal, as sporting director Victor Orta moves to make major changes to the Sevilla squad this summer. Romero joined the team under Quique Sanchez Flores last January, and until he suffered an injury in April, he became a key part of the team. The release clause in his contract will also rise to 40 million euros. His initial agent demands of €2.6 million per year have been reduced significantly.

Romero was a major reason Sevilla turned things around under Sanchez Flores, scoring six goals and providing four assists in just 16 appearances, and forming a lethal partnership with Youssef En-Nesyri. There is a good chance of signing the Moroccan this summer, but Romero will not do it.
