Ronald Araujo stay more likely after Xavi Hernandez exit from Barcelona

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been heavily linked with an exit from the club this summer, with talks over a renewal in the doldrums. However, the Blaugrana defender is likely to remain without Xavi Hernandez there.

According to Marca, the relationship between the two was not the best, and Araujo was not happy about being summoned in front of his teammates, which is something Xavi did on multiple occasions, but more clearly after he received the red card against Paris Saint-Germain. Araujo felt exposed by the club and Xavi, with criticism pouring in.

Now with Hansi Flick set to replace Xavi, Araujo is more interested in renewing his contract, although chances are he could still leave. The 24-year-old centre-back is keen to play for a team that will be competing for silverware, and with the finances in place, it seems unlikely that Barcelona will be able to bolster their abilities much this summer. It appears he will wait to see how things go in the next few weeks – he has yet to respond to Barcelona's renewal offer – and is considering staying if there are enough reinforcements.

The upshot is that Barcelona also need to sell this summer, and Araujo appears to be one of the few willing to leave the club which would bring a hefty transfer fee. With rumored interest from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Araujo has two years left until his contract expires, and Barcelona's most rational financial decision is to sell him if he does not agree to a new contract.
