Red Bull hopeful voices ambition to replace Perez

Amid uncertainty over his future with Red Bull, Sergio Perez's seat has become the subject of interest from a grid contender, who has expressed an interest in taking the seat for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Perez's contract expires at the end of the current season and he entered the season under pressure after a difficult period last year.

The Mexican driver enjoyed a strong start alongside teammate Max Verstappen before showing a lackluster performance last time out at Imola which saw him miss out on progressing to Q3 before progressing to eighth.

RB's Yuki Tsunoda, who is also out of contract at the end of the year, admitted he has hopes of securing promotion to the first team.

“Always as a driver, you want to be in a team where the car performs well and Red Bull clearly has the best car on the grid,” Tsunoda said. Sky Sports F1 Podcast.

“Especially when you've been in the Red Bull family for so long, you always aim to get a Red Bull car.

“So if I said I wasn't aiming for a Red Bull car, it would be a lie. But at the same time, I'm also very happy with the RB car and enjoying the progress we've made so far this season.

Tsunoda has enjoyed a successful start to the 2024 season, notching four top-10 finishes in the opening rounds.

While he was happy with the way his season started, Tsunoda admitted he had not hosted many discussions with Red Bull about promotion.

He said: “As a team, we struggled last year in the first half of the season and now I feel a big difference in the car.”

“So just for me [I’m] Right now I'm focusing on performance, and what I can do to keep extracting [pace] From the car and I'm always excited to see how much we can do.

“But obviously there is something, the story that maybe I can go to Red Bull or not, that would be great.

“The truth is that there is not much talk between me and Red Bull. So I just do what I do and see how it goes in the future.
