Real Madrid to continue monitoring Trent Alexander-Arnold situation at Liverpool

Real Madrid look set to retain veteran right-back pairing Lucas Vázquez and Dani Carvajal for at least another season, but that does not mean they are turning their sights on signing another potential Galactico.

Vazquez's contract expires this summer, and many assume he will sign a one-year extension at the club. Carvajal's contract, 32, expires in 2025, but it became clear today that Real Madrid will try to renew his contract as well.

However, they will continue to monitor the situation of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is also facing a contractual situation with the Reds. Alexander-Arnold's contract expires in 2025, and Liverpool have not yet linked him to a new deal. If Alexander-Arnold does not end up renewing with Liverpool, this will be a market opportunity that Real Madrid will look into. Getting a player of Alexander-Arnold's quality for free would be a coup.

Real Madrid have made it part of their strategy to bring in some of Europe's best players whose contracts have expired since the pandemic, starting with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, and many believe that will continue with Kylian Mbappe this summer. While Carvajal remains an excellent right-back, Real Madrid would be foolish not to seek to sign Alexander-Arnold, if possible, to at least compete with him in place of the aging Vazquez.
