They may only have two of the 64 teams publicly involved in the project, but the Premier League has reportedly set a date for the start of the competition. Earlier this week, Spanish courts upheld the European Court of Justice in ruling that penalties for joining the project would contravene the rules of fair market competition.

According to Cadena Kobe, the proposed start date for the project will be September 2025, which is when the Champions League for the 2025-2026 season is also scheduled to start. So far, only Real Madrid and Barcelona remain publicly interested in the competition, although organizer A22 claims there are plenty of other interests.

There has been no talk of cooperating with other competitions in scheduling, nor with FIFA, suggesting it is a very ambitious goal. With the Champions League format changing in favor of fewer upsets and the addition of four more teams to the competition, as well as increasing the number of matches, the Premier League's incentives are less attractive than they once were.
