Perez relaxed despite Red Bull contract peril

Sergio Perez has confirmed that securing his future in Formula 1 is not his “main priority” despite there being no deal in place for 2025.

Perez's current contract with Red Bull expires at the end of the current season.

The Mexican driver's future was up in the air ahead of the season after he endured a difficult 2023 season while teammate Max Verstappen dominated en route to a third world championship.

With Lewis Hamilton and Nico Hulkenberg already confirmed that they will swap teams next year, further developments in the driver market are expected soon.

Perez admitted that he is not too worried about his future, hinting that he has more options available to him than Red Bull.

“I think, like anyone who has not signed a contract, who has not signed it, even if it is not fully signed on paper, everything will still be an option,” Perez told media outlets including: Racing News 365.

“So, right now, that's not really the main priority.”

New contract 'a matter of time'

Compared to his level in 2023, Perez is enjoying a stronger start to the current season.

The 34-year-old has been on the podium four times in the first six races, including three second-place finishes.

Perez is confident that if he performs satisfactorily, a contract will naturally follow after the 2024 season.

“We are in a period of time, and obviously the driver market is making things happen very early, with Lewis joining Ferrari early in the year, and that means everyone is looking for the best possible option they can get.

“But I think it's only a matter of time. And yeah, obviously now the priority is for the season, it's for the races, preparing for the races with the team and the rest will take care of itself.
