Palmer vs Havertz: Whose goal contributions in 2024 have won more points?

The Chelsea player has been involved in 19 goals since the turn of the year, while the Arsenal striker trails the Englishman by five goals.

Cole Palmer and Kai Havertz have played pivotal roles in their clubs' struggle to achieve different goals in the Premier League in the 2023-2024 season.

Despite the Argentine coach's uncertain future in west London, statistics indicate an encouraging trajectory for the club since the end of 2023.

The Chelsea man has carried the initiative for Mauricio Pochettino's side, keen to finish in the continental places, with the former Blues man rising to the occasion since Mikel Arteta eschewed the initial plan to play him in a midfield role for Arsenal.

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has criticized Arsenal coach for moving Kai Havertz from a central attacking position to a midfield role against Unai Emery's side.

Kai Havertz

Havertz has flourished while playing as a striker for the table-topping North London side, having already matched his assist total for Chelsea (seven) in just 36 Premier League appearances at Arsenal. In context, the German international player reached this number after 91 matches at the West London club.

Looking at 2024 alone, Havertz has been involved in 14 goals for the title-hunting side, surpassing his tally of 13 goals throughout 2022.

His latest goal came against Manchester United on Sunday, as the Gunners recorded their first win at Old Trafford in front of fans since September 2006, bringing them back to the top of the table after Manchester City beat Fulham 24 hours earlier.

Only Palmer has surpassed the former Chelsea man's contributions since the turn of the year.

Cole Palmer

The Premier League Player of the Year candidate has almost single-handedly dragged Pochettino's men into Europa League contention in 2024, scoring important goals and assists.

His latest goal came at Nottingham Forest, where he put on a fine pass by Mykhaylo Modric to score the Ukrainian's first goal away from home since October 2023.

Cole Palmer

This led to Palmer doubling his number of goals and assists, emulating the feat of Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard in the title-winning 2009-10 season. The former Manchester City player reaches 19 direct appearances in 2024, more than every player in the league and five behind Havertz.

What comes next for Palmer and Havertz?

Palmer and Chelsea continue their battle for sixth place when they travel to Brighton on Wednesday, with Newcastle United hosting Manchester United before concluding the season at Stamford Bridge.

As for Arsenal, Havertz should start on final day when Arteta's men host Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners will be hoping to get a favor from their north London rivals, who face Pep Guardiola's men on Tuesday, with a Spurs win or draw seeing Arsenal maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table.
