Nigeria vs South Africa: Kelechi Iheanacho last penalty send Super Eagles to the final


The Super Eagles secured qualification to the final after defeating South Africa in the Semi-final.

Troost Ekong who had a solid game scored from the penalty spot in the second half after Osimhem was fouled in the box before South Africa equalised late in the second half.

Iheanacho’s last penalty shoot-out sends the Super Eagles to the final as they face either Ivory Coast or DR Congo.

Ola Aina – 7

Ola Aina played as a left-back in the game and was not at his best in the game which limited his ability going forward but had a decent second-half performance 

Troost-Ekong – 8

Troost-Ekong had trouble battling with Percy Tao in the first half but was always close to the South African forward to limit him on the ball.

He also scored the opening goal for the Super Eagles from the penalty spot after Osimhen was fouled in the box.

Semi Ajayi – 7

Semi Ajayi did his best to keep the South African attackers away from the box and also had to deal with the aerial balls.

Calvin Bassey – 7

Calvin Bassey performed well for the Super Eagles and complemented Peseiro’s three-man defence well.

Osayi Samuel – 5

Osayi Samuel was not at his best in the game and found it hard defensively to deprive the South African wingers from getting past him.

Frank Onyeka – 6

Frank Onyeka had a poor game and did not cover enough for the defence which created a lot of space in the midfield.

Alex Iwobi – 7

Alex Iwobi had a good performance and with a lot of presence in the Super Eagles attack made some important passes during the game before his substitution.

Ademola Lookman – 7

Ademola Lookman did not do much in the game but was always putting pressure on South African players.

Moses Simon – 6

Moses Simon was poor in the game and did not contribute much in the Super Eagles attack before being substituted.

Victor Osimhen – 9

Victor Osimhen was a menace to the South African defenders and his ruggedness helped him win a penalty for his team.

Substitutes 

Alhassan Yusuf – 5

Alhassan came in for Alex Iwobi but made a poor judgement which led to the South African getting a penalty.

Samuel Chukwueze – 5

Samuel Chukwueze came in to replace Moses Simon and did more in attack for the Super Eagles.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 5

Kelechi Iheanacho came in with a lot of energy and helped the team in attack

Joe Aribo – 5

Joe Aribo came in for Frank Onyeka late in the game and did his best.

Terem Moffi – 6

Terem Moffi was superb during the few minutes of the game and almost won a penalty 

Kenneth Omeruo – 5

Kenneth Omeruo came in to solidify the defence of the Super Eagles. He scored the first penalty for the team during the penalty kick.
