Mallorca confirm much-loved manager will depart at season’s end

It has been known for a couple of weeks that Mallorca will move on from Javier Aguirre at the end of the season, and the news was made official by the Islanders on Wednesday evening.

The much-loved Mexican coach has been at Mallorca since December 2022, and has managed to keep them in La Liga along the way, while also securing their La Liga status for next season on Sunday. However, his contract expires at the end of June, and the decision has been made not to extend it, meaning this weekend's trip to Getafe is Aguirre's final game in charge.

Aguirre's replacement is already known, with Gagoba Arrasate already agreeing to take the reins when he leaves Osasuna. It is not yet known where Aguirre will go next, although he should have chances of staying in La Liga, with clubs such as Osasuna and Las Palmas expected to have vacant places.
