Inside Ronaldo’s mentorship: How Anderson and Nani lived and learned with a legend at Manchester United

Ex-Manchester United stars Nani and Anderson narrated how they were under Cristiano Ronaldo’s wings earlier in their career.

In a revealing interview with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, former Manchester United midfielders Anderson and Nani have shared some intriguing insights into their early days at the club, under the wing of none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar not only welcomed the duo with open arms in 2007 but also offered them a place to stay, showcasing an often unseen side of his generosity and mentorship off the pitch.

Eden Hazard’s claim that he ranks higher than Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of “pure footballing ability” has attracted fan outrage.

Ronaldo’s Mentorship: More Than Just Teammates

Anderson delved into the details of their unique living arrangement, praising Ronaldo for his unparalleled support. “As soon as I arrived, I went to Cristiano’s house,” he stated, emphasising the profound impact of Ronaldo’s guidance on their adjustment to life at United.

For nearly a year, they were Ronaldo’s houseguests, a gesture that Anderson is deeply thankful for. The Portuguese icon was more than just a teammate; he was a mentor, providing everything from transportation to training to ensuring they had meals prepared by a cook.

Ronaldo’s household featured luxury amenities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a jacuzzi, and a tennis court, creating an environment that was as nurturing as it was lavish.

A Glimpse into Ronaldo’s Dedication

Anderson also shed light on Ronaldo’s extraordinary dedication to his craft, revealing that their early rides to training were due to Ronaldo’s commitment to starting his day well before the scheduled time.

This level of discipline was eye-opening for both Anderson and Nani, who found themselves napping on stretchers at the training ground as they waited for the day to officially begin. Anderson reflected on his own career, candidly admitting that adopting even a fraction of Ronaldo’s mentality could have elevated his standing among the world’s elite midfielders.

He expressed regret over the complacency that sometimes plagued his approach, a stark contrast to Ronaldo’s relentless pursuit of excellence.

The narrative was corroborated by Mick Clegg, a former United coach, who spoke to The Athletic about Anderson’s potential and his frustrating lack of effort. Describing Anderson as a “lazy bleeder” who was loved by all but unwilling to put in the necessary work,
