Finidi George has confirmed that he has left NRL champions Enyimba after taking over as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Fenidi George, has confirmed that he has relinquished his position as Enyimba coach to fully commit to the greater challenge of leading the Nigeria national team.

Fenidi was recently appointed as Jose Peseiro's permanent successor after the Super Eagles reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Nigeria international was in charge of league champions Enyimba when it was announced that he had been appointed the new man in charge of the Eagles, raising questions about his ability to juggle the two roles.

However, in a candid letter, the 52-year-old admitted that trying to balance the two careers would be an unwise decision given the amount of work and stress involved.

“I do not think it is wise to continue with Enyimba, knowing the level of work required for them to retain the league title, while at the same time continuing with the daunting task of managing a quality Super Eagles team,” Fenedi said. Male per Afik-ft.

“I'm not a superman. I can't stress myself out trying to win the league again and then fight with the Eagles to qualify for the World Cup; I can't do both.”

The former Ajax and Real Betis winger stressed the importance of taking charge of the Nigerian national team, which more than 200 million citizens are expected to achieve.

“This is a difficult task and managing Enyimba is also very difficult. We are talking about the entire country, the Nigerian team, which is watched by more than 200 million people,” he added.

Fenedi revealed that he had already discussed the situation with Enyimba management, who understood his position, paving the way for him to focus solely on his new role with the three-time African champions.
