Hurricanes retain just four starters to play Moana Pasifika

The Hurricanes made the changes for their next home clash against Moana Pacifica at Sky Stadium on Friday night.

After falling to the Blues 31-27 at Eden Park, only four players have been retained from the starting line-up as Clarke Laidlaw looks to make use of his full squad.

The changes see a number of New Zealand Under-20 graduates get the opportunity to play, particularly support Sial Lwakyi and hooker Raymond Tuputobo who make their first starts for the club.

“Sialli and Raymond are two very talented young men who have had to bide their time, but we feel they have really grown in the environment this season and they both performed well against the Blues,” Laidlaw said.

Brad Shields leads the team once again with Devan Flanders in eighth alongside Du'Plessis Kirifi as the loose attacking trio.

In the halves, Aidan Morgan teams up with veteran full-back Richard Goode, while Peter Umaga-Jensen gets the second five-eighth spot with Bailyn Sullivan retaining the position.

Making his first start of the season at full-back, Harry Godrevy takes over from Robin Love while Daniel Sinkinson and Kenny Naholo are named on the wings.

The Hurricanes are looking to rebound after losing two of their last three games after starting the season 8-0.

They were the first New Zealand team to lose to Moana Pasifika in 2022, but have since reeled off three straight wins over the expansion franchise.
