Hurricanes re-sign three loose forwards and one prop

The Hurricanes bolstered their loose futures stocks by re-signing three releases and one prop through at least 2026.

Captain Brad Shields and Hawke's Bay product Devan Flanders have been signed to two-year extensions until 2026, while rising star No.8 Brayden Ewes penned a three-year contract until 2027.

Explosive player Basilio Tosi has completed a series of re-signings, signing a two-year commitment until the end of 2026. The former No. 8 has moved into the first grade and played in every game this year.

Head coach Clark Laidlaw was happy to see the group committing to the club for the long term.

“We have real depth in our strikers who have quality throughout the group and it was amazing to see how Brad came back and showed real leadership,” he said.

“Devan has been with the team since 2020, Brayden since 2021, and their abilities are clear for all to see.

“As for Bassey, he has shown that he can combine that with the best elements in the competition which is a testament to his ability to learn a new position and continue to challenge himself.”

Shields will extend his second spell with the club and add to his 103 caps after making his debut in 2012.

Flanders will earn 50 caps for the club shortly after making his debut in 2020, while Eos is likely to reach that milestone in the coming years. He currently has 35 international caps.

The Hurricanes play Moana Pacifica on Friday night and look to bounce back from a loss to the Blues last week.
