Former F1 driver to complete Misano test

Former F1 driver Jack Aitken will complete the upcoming rookie practice session in Misano for Envision, the side he has participated in recent tests for.

The inaugural Misano E-Prix next weekend will kickstart with FP0 – a practice session specifically for 11 Formula E rookie drivers. It is effectively a 30-minute rookie test.

Aitken is currently competing for Whelen Engineering Racing in IMSA, where his team currently sits third in the championship.

He has previously been Williams’ reserve driver, whilst he actually raced for the outfit at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. Aitken replaced George Russell, who was promoted to Mercedes to replace Lewis Hamilton who had tested positive for COVID-19.

“I’m looking forward to another outing with Envision, this time at Misano, a much more traditional circuit than the ones I’ve experienced so far,” said Aitken.

“Apart from this change in scenery I’m glad to join the team at another event, it’s always fascinating to sample the car and then watch and learn from everyone during the weekend.”

Other confirmed drivers

With the Misano double-header only a week away, the teams are starting to announce who will be representing them at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

ABT Cupra has announced that they will again be fielding 19-year-old F3 driver Tim Tramnitz, in both Misano and in the Berlin rookie test.

At Andretti, F2 championship leader Zane Maloney will be driving for the American outfit in Misano and Berlin, with fellow F2 driver Jak Crawford joining him at the latter.

According to The Race, Porsche will field sports car driver Matt Campbell in Misano, whilst reigning DTM champion Thomas Preining and F2’s Dennis Hauger will feature in Berlin.
