Ferrari reveal Leclerc drain cover damage

Ferrari has confirmed that Charles Leclerc sustained damage to the floor of his SF-24 after running over a drain cover on the second morning of F1 pre-season testing.

The Monégasque had set the fastest time of the day before running over the dislodged cover on the entry to Turn 11, triggering red flags.

With circuit maintenance a priority, the incident brought an early end to the morning session, prompting an hour extension to the afternoon’s running to make up for lost time.

Having run over the drain cover, Ferrari confirmed the floor had been changed on Leclerc’s car due to the damage.

It is the second time a Ferrari has been involved in a drain cover issue in F1 in recent times after Carlos Sainz brought an early end to track running on the opening day of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, sustaining huge damage to the underside of his SF-23 last November.
