Ferrari F1 driver fastest in red-flagged Formula E rookie test

Ferrari Formula 1 reserve driver Robert Schwartzman was the driver who won the official Formula E rookie test, held at the Tempelhof Airport circuit in Berlin.

Driving for DS Penske, Schwartzman topped both the morning and afternoon sessions, with his fastest time of 1:01.937, just two-tenths off the fastest time from the Berlin E-Prix doubleheader.

Two red flags were raised during the six-hour run, with Dries Vanthoor causing the morning pit stop, while Aston Martin Formula 1 reserve Felipe Drugovich causing the afternoon pit stop.

Morning session

Schwartzman was spot on and found himself clocking a respectable 1:02s in the first 10 minutes of running, his lead for the session being 1:02.150.

The Russian-Israeli driver was only 0.071 seconds ahead of Maserati's Drogovic and six-thousandths of a second ahead of Mercedes Formula 1 reserve Frederic Vesti.

2022 DTM Champion Sheldon van der Linde finished fourth, while Gabriel Mini completed the top five.

A red flag was required after Vanthoor crashed at Turn 4, an accident that ended his run for the rest of the day. The accident occurred two hours into the session.

Afternoon session

Schwartzman was in front again on the afternoon after trailing dramatically by 1:01, something very few drivers achieved in last weekend's two headers.

Drozovic was the one responsible for the second red flag of the day after his pit stop. However, he was able to return to session after the repairs. The Brazilian finished the second session in fourth place.

Jack Crawford of the F2 team representing Andretti took second place, with Van der Linde again third.

Another F2 driver Kush Maini completed the top five for Mahindra. Formula 2 championship leader Zane Maloney came in eighth place.
