Fermin Lopez inspires Barcelona to unconvincing victory over already-relegated Almeria

Almeria 0-2 Barcelona

Barcelona needs only three points from the last two matches to secure second place in the Spanish League, and thus qualify for the 2025 Spanish Super Cup. The team achieved consecutive victories on Thursday, securing an unconvincing victory over Almeria, who have already been relegated, at the Power Horse Stadium.

Barcelona started the match strongly, and were rewarded with the opening goal in the 14th minute. A deep cross from Hector Forte was met by Fermín Lopez, who headed it past Luis Maximiano in the Almería net.

The hosts came close to equalizing on several occasions, with Adri Embarba hitting the post and Anthony Lozano missing a dangerous chance in both halves. They were forced to push just after the hour mark, as Fermin turned in Sergi Roberto's cross to score Barcelona's second goal of the evening.

A rare appearance by Vitor Roque was the big story in the remaining minutes, as Barcelona sealed the win to move four points clear of Girona. Victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday will ensure coach Xavi Hernandez's side finish first and second.
