Former rider and ex-Team HRC Honda WorldSBK boss Leon Camier will assume a new role with the Elf Marc VDS Racing team for the 2024 WorldSBK season, it has been confirmed.
The 2009 British Superbike Champion will become an ‘external consultant and rider coach’ for the Belgian squad, which is making its WorldSBK debut this season in a dovetailed dual campaign alongside its Moto2 commitments.
Camier takes on the role – which will see him working with fellow British rider Sam Lowes as he prepares to make his WorldSBK debut – after stepping down from his role as team principal of the factory Honda team.
The former rider took on the position in 2021 but departed prior to the start of the 2024 WorldSBK season, leading to his appointment with Marc VDS Racing.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team for this new challenge starting in Phillip Island. The team obviously has a long history in the MotoGP paddock and I’m looking forward to try to help them achieve big successes in the WorldSBK Championship.
“I will be an external consultant and rider coach for a few events so I will be looking to help support the team where possible.
“I’ve known Sam for many years and his speed and talent are unquestionable, so I am excited to work with him and hopefully pass on some of my WorldSBK experience.”
