Carlo Ancelotti credits Florentino Perez after Real Madrid book Champions League final place – “He’s the captain”

It was never easy, but Real Madrid booked their place in another Champions League final, beating Bayern Munich 4-3 on aggregate, following a 2-1 win in the second leg on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu.

It was a busy evening in the Spanish capital, full of moments. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti caught the eye for more than 90 minutes when he spoke to the media after full time, according to Diario AS.

“A great match with players who can't stop believing. It's magic. We played well. We controlled the match well and then we had the strength not to lose our heads.

“We have to thank the fans and the club. And to the players, because they had a season that no one expected. Reaching the final is success no matter what. If you think about the days remaining to reach the final, we will have a great time.”

Ancelotti has taken much of the credit for Real Madrid's success this season away from himself, passing it to Florentino Perez.

“There is a captain here, his name is Florentino Pérez. The rest of us are sailors. He was able to create this great generation of players, and hopefully we can win another Champions League.

Ancelotti also addressed the controversial non-goal demanded by Bayern late in the game, which left rival number Thomas Tuchel very angry.

“It's very clear. It could be offside, and the game stops. He's a high-level referee. They complain about that, and we'll complain about Nacho's goal being disallowed because Kimmich went down.”

With La Liga already over, Real Madrid are now only looking forward to the Champions League final on June 1. They face another German heavyweight in Borussia Dortmund – and will be hoping to bring title number 15 back to the Spanish capital.
