Bittersweet farewell for Mbappe as he scores in his last home game for PSG

The match doubled as a celebration of Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 title, and saw Mbappe score in his final home appearance for the club.

Kylian Mbappé's emotional farewell at the Parc des Princes ended badly, as Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Toulouse.

The match doubled as a celebration of Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 title, and saw Mbappe score in his final home appearance for the club.

Mbappe confirmed his departure via social media on Friday, ending his seven-year spell with the French giants, with Real Madrid widely expected to be his next destination.

The Paris Saint-Germain coach stressed that there is no bad energy between Mbappe and the club, but he was convinced that they would be stronger without the Frenchman.

Mbappe scored his 44th goal this season

Mbappe, wearing the captain's armband, opened the scoring early, adding to his impressive tally of 44 goals in all competitions this season.

Kylian Mbappe is certain to be heading to Real Madrid following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain this summer according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

However, a much-changed PSG side, featuring only Mbappe following their midweek Champions League exit to Borussia Dortmund, struggled for cohesion.

Theis Dalinga quickly equalized for Toulouse, who took advantage of a weak PSG line-up. Yann Gboho put the visitors ahead with a stunning strike in the second half, then Franck Magri sealed the win in stoppage time.

The defeat marked Paris Saint-Germain's second loss in the French League this season, and the first in 27 matches since September.

Mbappé leaves Paris Saint-Germain as a historic goalscorer

Mbappé's 256 goals for Paris Saint-Germain remains a club record since his arrival from Monaco in a €180m deal in 2017.

He also ranks seventh on the list of Ligue 1's all-time top scorers with 191 goals, including his early career spell at Monaco. Before the match, coach Luis Enrique described him as a “club legend.”

While PSG planned their post-match celebrations to focus on the Ligue 1 title rather than Mbappe's departure, the atmosphere surrounding the star player was mixed. Some fans mocked him, while others unveiled a giant Tifo display in his honor.

The Qatari-owned club had already won the French League title for the 12th time, the tenth in the last 12 years, before hosting Toulouse, safe from relegation fears.

However, PSG's Champions League disappointment means Mbappe leaves without the coveted European trophy. They finished second in 2020 and reached the semi-finals twice more, but the France captain is now aiming to win the Champions League with his new club.

There is still a chance for Paris Saint-Germain to complete the domestic treble. They will face Lyon in the French Cup final on May 25.
