He added: “My inability to achieve one of my goals with the national team, which is to win the African Cup of Nations at least once.

However, this regret was assuaged by the Elephants winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. I feel proud that all my younger brothers who won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have called me at some point to say: “Old man, we did it for you.” He emphasized that this is my greatest pride.

Drogba was a constant presence in the stands throughout Ivory Coast's journey into the competition. He showed a wide range of emotions, depending on their fortunes, but was thrilled in the end as they beat the Super Eagles 2-1 to be crowned African champions on home soil.
