Barcelona finalise agreement to extend veteran’s contract by additional 12 months

Barcelona are starting to plan their squad for next season, with very little to play for in the season remaining. One of the pieces they have been working on is the renewal of Sergi Roberto, whose current contract expires in six weeks.

Roberto's future looked uncertain when Xavi Hernandez's decision to step down as head coach was announced, but with the 44-year-old set to remain open next season, Roberto's renewal is back on the table.

According to MD, an agreement has now been reached between Barcelona and Roberto. The 32-year-old will sign a one-year extension, although there is no option to extend. Everything is finalized now, but the announcement may be delayed until after the season.

Barcelona fans have been vocal about the possibility of Roberto's renewal, so this news is unlikely to sit well with him. However, in terms of experience, his presence would be very beneficial for Xavi to say the least.
