Barcelona face competition from European giant for Xavi Simons

Barcelona will be looking for economic options to strengthen this summer, and the idea of bringing Paris Saint-Germain's Xavi Simons to his childhood home on loan certainly fits the bill. However, they will have to rely on Simons' desire to return to Barcelona in all likelihood.

Simons is scheduled to meet with Paris Saint-Germain to discuss his future, but the most likely scenario currently is for him to leave either on loan or on a permanent deal. In the case of the former, Barcelona would have a good chance of completing the deal, but if another team makes a big bid, they will have no alternative but to turn their attention elsewhere.

Reports out of Germany from Sky DE (via MD) suggest that Bayern Munich are on that side which could get in the way. Sporting director Max Eberl appears to be a fan of Simons, who has contributed greatly to RB Leipzig's season in the Bundesliga. Simons will be allowed to leave for €60-70m, but Bayern first needs to find a way out for some of their attacking players and, more importantly, the manager.

Simons would add another option in Barcelona's midfield, a more creative and dynamic presence compared to what they have now, someone capable of beating his defender. Likewise, Simons can play on the left flank, a role that Xavi Hernandez often used during his time at Barcelona. However, like Bayern, they lack certainty about the manager's role.
