In the aftermath of Liverpool’s defeat at the Emirates, Jurgen Klopp has thrown his support behind Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, following a critical mistake that led to Arsenal clinching a victory.


The jubilations, which some viewed as ‘overcelebration,’ have prompted Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard, to reflect on the balance between joy and humility in the wake of their significant win.

Arsenal put up a sterling display against Liverpool in the 3-1 win, dominating the league leaders for large spells of the match and came out 3-1 victors, celebrating their third goal in extra time wildly. 

The gesture from the Arsenal players and staff seemed to have rubbed critics off the wrong way, as they were accused of milking the celebrations against Liverpool, a sentiment that Odegaard vehemently rejected.

The Arsenal captain, in his response to the criticisms, said, “If you’re not allowed to celebrate when you win a game, when are you allowed to celebrate?” 

Arsenal staying humble despite celebrations

Arsenal’s victory at Anfield, underscored by goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard, was not just a testament to their on-field prowess but also a significant leap towards challenging for the top spot in the league. Now merely two points shy of Liverpool, the Gunners are firmly in the title race, a position that hasn’t been as promising in recent years.

Despite the grandeur of their victory, Odegaard emphasised the team’s approach going forward, saying, “We will stay humble and focus on the next one, but… we were just happy.”

This statement is a declaration of Arsenal’s intent to keep their feet on the ground. It reflects a mature attitude towards the remainder of the season, acknowledging that while victories are to be celebrated, the journey towards the ultimate goal continues.
