However, Victor Osimhen’s relentless pressing and intimidation of the Cameroon defense resulted in Lookman scoring in the 36th minute.

The Indomitable Lions were then held at bay by a team that has proven impervious at this AFCON, and in front of 22,085 spectators at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Lookman ensured victory in the 90th minute.

On Friday, Angola will play in the quarterfinals after Ademola Lookman scored twice in the 36th and 90th minutes to knock out the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Following the Super Eagles victory against Cameroon, Nigerians took to social media to give their thoughts.

The Atalanta forward put in a performance for the ages and was rewarded with the Man of the Match award.

Ademola Lookman attributes the Super Eagles’ victory over Cameroon, which enabled them to book their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals on Saturday, to the teamwork of his Nigerian teammates.

He said, “Wow, we’re so happy to qualify for the quarter-finals.

“The more we play together, the more fluid we become. I’m standing here now but this award reflects the whole team’s performance.

“I love this atmosphere, it’s incredible. Tonight our fans pushed us to the end because this was Cameroon, and when you wear the Super Eagles shirt, some games resonate more than others.”

Speaking about Angola he said, “Angola are a good team. We’ll analyze them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets so we’ll take it game by game.”

Since 2013, Nigeria has been vying for their fourth championship. They’re one step closer to breaking that drought thanks to Lookman’s brace.

They will now play again at the same location on Friday of next week in a last-eight match against Angola, who overcame Namibia 3-0 earlier.

Cameroon’s Coach Rigobert Song on loss to Nigeria

After the match Rigobert Song Head Coach of Cameroon explained the loss to Nigeria.

He said, “We had the youngest team; there are players who are discovering.

“We gave the opponent the opportunity to put us in difficulty; it’s part of the game.

“As I’ve said before, we are in reconstruction. It’s by making these mistakes that we will grow. Football is like that.

“The AFCON is a competition that is played on all levels: technical, tactical, and especially mental. I have a youthful that is discovering; it played, and we still have a lot to learn.”

Nigeria’s Coach José Peseiro encourages Pasta

Jose Peseiro after the game talked about Super Eagles players eating Pasta.

He said, “We will now focus on our next match against Angola, which is having an excellent tournament.

“We must take this opponent seriously, so we will continue to sleep early and eat pasta (laughs). Jokes aside, all the teams at this stage are capable of winning the tournament.”

The Super Eagles now have three more obstacles to win a fourth AFCON title.
