Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Cote d’Ivoire dominate CAF’s AFCON 2023 team of the tournament.
The team of the tournament for the AFCON 2023 has been unveiled by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, with Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi missing.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can report that CAF revealed the team on Wednesday afternoon with Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire dominating the list with three players each.

Leading the charge with are Ivory Coast and Nigeria, the two countries who competed for the final of the 34th AFCON.
Nigeria’s representatives in the team of the tournament are stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong, full-back Ola Aina and top scorer, Ademola Lookman, who finished with three goals for the Super Eagles.
There was no space for African footballer of the year, Osimhen, who despite playing a key role in Nigeria’s run to the final, managed just a single goal in seven matches at the AFCON.
Another player who misses out is playmaker, Iwobi, who failed to score or assist a single goal for the Super Eagles in the tournament.
Meanwhile, leading the Elephants in the team are midfield stars, Franck Kessie and Jean Seri while Ronwen Williams was named the goalkeeper of the tournament.
The inclusion of players from South Africa, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea further underscores the tournament’s diversity and how the AFCON 2023 will be remembered as the tournament for the underdogs.
