Lance Stroll topped the Chinese Grand Prix practice session that was disrupted by a bizarre grass fire red flag on the return of Formula 1.
The Aston Martin driver put in a late effort on the soft tires to secure the order, having never run a tire before, while team-mate Fernando Alonso finished 19th in those times.
He beat Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen with Lewis Hamilton in 18th, as he also did not use the soft tires at Mercedes.
The session was briefly red flagged due to a grass fire at turn seven before marshals extinguished the flames and the session continued.
